kalari retreatA Spring Kalari Retreat

May 10–12, 2024 (Fri–Sun)
GNIEWOSZÓW 16, close to Międzylesie, Guesthouse Śliwkowy Sad

We invite you to join us for an energizing weekend kalarippayattu retreat in the mountains. We’ll focus on: kalarippayattu practice, easy trekking in the mountains (for those who want), enjoying the surrounding nature, limiting stimuli and technology, as well as taking rest from daily routine.

The training programme will be adapted to the level of participants – both beginners and advanced are welcome. The format of the classes allows for the participation of people with different physical experience.

Who is the workshop for?

  • for those who want to try kalari practice;
  • for those who have already practiced kalari in the past and want to practice more/again, and who for example do not have the opportunity to practice regularly;
  • for the participants of regular classes who want to deepen their practice.

kalari warsztaty workshopSome of the exercises and sequences are done by moving around the room, while others are done on the spot. Some are directed more toward endurance, others toward strength, and others toward flexibility.

Kalarippayattu training is characterized by breath work, coordination in dynamic sequences, building strength in new ranges of motion and endurance in a wave of low and high positions, and attention to one’s body work and mind activity. For the more advanced, empty hand and weapon confrontations with a partner/opponent will be an additional challenge.

Who is leading the workshop?

rodzinska-nair kalariThe workshop will be led by Justyna Rodzinska-Nair: co-founder of Studio Kalari, kalari practitioner (since 2005), teacher and populariser of this art, author of a blog and (e-)books on kalari, mother of three children and a dog, and wife of Sankar, a kalarippayattu master and a specialist in Ayurvedic medicine. Apart from cultivating the South Indian tradition of working with the body and mind, Justyna expands her knowledge and practical skills in movement, training and anatomy during courses and trainings led by experienced physiotherapists and coaches. Thanks to this, whne needed she is able to adapt exercises to individual condition of a person so that the practice is safe and doable.
