May 1–4, 2025 (Thursday–Sunday), Gniewoszów 16 (Kotlina Kłodzka, South-West Poland), Gościniec Śliwkowy Sad
Take part in an energizing weekend kalarippayattu retreat in the mountains. The dynamic practice of this Indian martial art will be balanced with a stay and moderate activity in nature. With this combination, you will relax, strengthen and recuperate.
I really like the word ‘retreat‘ which comes from Latin ‘retraho, retrahere’ and means to pull back, to withdraw. That’s exactly what we will do during the May Kalari Retreat – take distance from daily routine, relax in the nature and pay attention to profound and wise movement that will affect our body and mind.
The practice of kalarippayattu is characterised by the coordination and flow of energy in dynamic movement sequences, accompanied by breath work, building strength in new ranges of movement as well as endurance in a wave of low and high positions, and awareness of one’s body work and the activity of the mind.
The morning and afternoon kalari sessions will be balanced with light trekking in the surrounding mountains (optionally), relax and regeneration.
The training programme will be adapted to the level of participants – both beginners and advanced are welcome.
The workshop training programme will include:
- exercises to build flexibility, strength and coordination, some specific to kalari, others general developmental
- animal postures
- basic movement sequences
- basic bamboo stick spinning
Who is the workshop for?
for those who like to move and want to try kalarippayattu practice;
- for those who have already practiced kalari in the past and want to practice more/again, and who for example do not have the opportunity to practice regularly;
- for the participants of regular classes who want to deepen their practice.
The workshop will be led by Justyna Rodzinska-Nair: co-founder of Studio Kalari, kalari practitioner (since 2005), teacher and populariser of this art.

Opinions and photos from the previous kalari retreats in Gniewoszow
Physical tiredness perfectly balanced with pleasant company, walks, beautiful nature and delicious food.
The workshop exceeded my expectations, it was a wonderful experience.
Justyna was excellent at organising activities for such a diverse group and focusing on the individual needs of each participant. I will definitely be returning! After two nights I feel like a newborn!
